For the Ones Left Waiting.

Things that take off should land gently.

Especially the ones carrying hearts, memories, and dreams.

They deserve to return as beautifully as they left.

My heart aches with every update on this tragic event.

Somewhere, a family is unable to accept

that their loved one wasn’t the one who made it home.

Thinking maybe they didn’t need to leave so early after all.

Regretting the rush to beat traffic, to not miss the flight.

Wishing they had said, “Stay a little longer.”

Wishing the company hadn’t approved their leave.

Wishing their visa had been denied.

Just some regular irregularities,

the kind that keep life going,

not bring it to an end.

My heart beats for these people, for their families.

I hope they find peace; somewhere, someday.

I hope their loved ones find a reason to smile again.

And I hope they have all the support they need,

from their people, their communities,

and from all of us, as a country.
